Strengthening and enriching our communities

There are numerous achievements in this area over the past 12 months: a wonderful new library at Stratford with a 500% increase in usage; a new plan to guide our cultural development and enable creativity to thrive and flourish; a long-awaited Mossman Link Bus Service; impressive line-ups of both local and national headline acts at the Tanks Arts Centre; a Youth Issues paper from our youth advisory group, Cairns YEA! (Youth Engagement and Action); and additional traineeships made available under the very first Indigenous Employment Strategy. A revitalised Festival Cairns provided numerous free and ticketed events over a shortened 16-day program. We were delighted to partner with Arts Queensland to host the inaugural Cairns Indigenous Art Fair to kick off the festival and put Aboriginal and Torres Strait visual and performing arts on show.
