Those of us who have nosed around the Sydney and Melbourne CBD's will have discovered interesting laneways that are made attractive with public art and commercial activity. Oliver, who started off Cairns' first laneways coffee shop, Caffiend, and Zoe from Tastey both played a role in the laneway being painted with some amazing graffiti. People are often seen taking photos of this laneway and international grafitti artist visitors to Cairns always check it out. The Public Art Advisory Group, which I chair, has identified 3 more laneways that we will energise with various art forms. This is all part of revitalising the city centre, making it more interesting and attracting visitors to get off the worn path along Shields St between Cairns Central and the Esplanade lagoon and to seek out the other businesses along Lake and Grafton Streets in particular. |
