I'd like to endorse what council's doing, and in particular the off-road cycle way. I've just returned from a few weeks in Melbourne where my daughter lives. She's one of the many Melbourne people now riding bicycles to work in that city. As I walk her little dog in the mornings, I've been noticing the amazing and apparently increasing number of people whizzing along on bikes on their way to work. You'll know that there are some excellent off road cycle ways in Melbourne and the one I see most often, the Merri Creek way in and around Westgarth/Northcote, has recently been upgraded and extended. It's great, as a mum, to know that my daughter rides safely off the road for most of her journey from Westgarth to Abbottsford.

It's wonderful that there'll be a safe cycle way from Palm Cove to Gordonvale eventually. Add this to the existing free fitness/wellbeing program on the Esplanade, which is very well attended and hugely appreciated by locals and visitors - not to mention existing and proposed cultural attractions - and Cairns is in a class of its own!
