Partnerships with the State Government have included the expensive upgrade of sewage treatment plants; the Regional Tennis Centre construction, flood mitigation at the lower end of Lake St and the off-road cycleway that's started in North Cairns. With the Federal Government we're completing the Disaster Coordination Centre at Woree, have upgraded most of the community halls across the region and will employ over 60 people in the Green Choice jobs project improving our natural environment.
Both levels of government, of course, have recognised the importance of the Cultural Precinct and have come on board with funding promises. It's a more effective way of doing business and has been taken up by the Chamber of Commerce, TTNQ and Advance Cairns who have all collaborated with Council to get Tropical North Queensland issues on the agenda in Canberra and in Brisbane. |
