Under the new Local Government Act all Councils are required to complete a Community Plan that will guide it over the next 10 years or more. Whilst we did considerable engagement in developing the Corporate Plan late in 2008, Cairns Regional Council decided to embark on a much more comprehensive community consultation to ensure that as many people as possible have their say about the future of our wonderful region.

A number of focus groups have been held, people have had their say

at the Cairns and Mossman Shows and other events, or on-line (www.cairns.qld.gov.au ) and a programme will soon begin to get feedback from engagement at shopping centres.

Parents of the babies who received their welcome certificates thought about the kind of place they want their children to grow up in and provided valuable input on their vision of what Cairns might look and feel like in 10 to 20 years time.
