Implementing the Port Douglas Waterfront Master Plan

The Committee established to provide advice on getting the Port Waterfront Master Plan put into action has met to determine the priorities for spending the $800,000 allocated to the plan this financial year.

Whilst it will take the best part of a decade to put the plan fully into place - as current leases become available and are converted by the State government into freehold land - there was animated discussion about getting some early improvements to the waterfront in the short term. At the beginning of the planning process there were many passionate and divergent views and it's been great that there has now been agreement on the plan, and that there will continue to be community input into what happens and when.

There is much interest in building a lagoon-style pool in the medium term and we'll do a feasibility study to determine location, size, facilities needed etc. In the meantime, work will commence shortly on refreshing the Four Mile Beach waterfront area.
