I've appreciated the feedback from people following Council approval to purchase Red Hill near Anderson Road, the important piece of land in between Woree and Forest Gardens which had been marked for development. The purchase of this landmark property demonstrates that my Council is serious about protecting hill slopes and keeping the "green face of Cairns" that is so important to locals.
It will also give us the opportunity to plan how the site might be able to be utilised for walking tracks and other recreational activities. The former Mulgrave Shire Council under Mayor Tom Pyne's leadership was clever in purchasing pieces of land of strategic importance, (e.g. the land where the Smithfield sporting precinct is now situated) and the current Council also needs to be looking at ways to secure land that can have public use by future generations. |
