An Important Cairns Hillslope Purchased For The People

You will know how proud I am of my Council's record on protecting and improving our natural environment and I was very, very pleased to sign the contract which has purchased Whitfield Hill for the people of Cairns. This 21 hectare site of rainforested hillslopes had a prior approval for residential development of 67 lots. People tell me over and over again how important the green backdrop of Cairns is and the acquisition of this site will mean that the community can have input into what, if anything, might be able to occur with this land. It has been suggested that a walking track that links Park View with the Blue Arrow and Red Arrow tracks behind the Botanic Gardens is a possibility that could be considered.

My Council has been active in strategically acquiring land also, making long overdue purchases of land at Edmonton for sporting purposes and land in the CBD which will build the first parking station to be constructed in more than 30 years (with a design somewhat more attractive than the Lake St parking station!)
