We've Supported The Inaugural 'Challenge Cairns' And 'Adventure Festival'

I've championed an Events Strategy for the region and it was pleasing to see the planning coming to fruition with thousands of extra people attracted to the region to participate in the inaugural Cairns Airport Adventure Festival and Challenge Cairns from 29 May to the 5th of June.

Mountain bikers, swimmers, outrigger canoeists, runners and cyclists all stayed in local accommodation, hired cars, went on reef trips, ate at the restaurants and generally contributed to our regional economy. It helped that we had magnificent weather to showcase the region. If you missed the one hour package of highlights shown across Australia last weekend, you can catch it on 1HD at 1.30pm this Thursday, 30 June.

A small number of people and businesses were disrupted by the road closures and the events managers are carefully reviewing the events and taking on board suggestions for improvements for next year when it's likely that twice the number will participate.
