Launch Of Off-Road Cycleway

Over a hundred riders enjoyed riding (and rollerblading) the first 6.5 kilometre section of the region's first off-road cycleway - from the Cairns Esplanade to Aeroglen - which I launched with Transport Minister Anastasia Palaszcuzek and Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall on Sunday, 26 June. It was great to see so many families there checking out the new safe route, and to hear from parents that they are now allowing their children to ride to school.

Others told me how they are regularly using the other circuit routes in Parramatta Park, Anderson St, Lily and Fearnley Cks and Manunda. We rode past the Tennis Centre, another joint State Government/Council initiative, and were pleased with the appearance of that whole north Cairns area which has been upgraded with paths, new mature trees, kerbing and guttering and landscaping. These are the sorts of projects that make our city so much more liveable.
