This event is a fundraiser for Val Schier's campaign for the Cairns Regional Council election to be held in March 2012.

These artists are keen to see Mayor Val Schier re-elected as mayor to ensure her continued support of the arts and culture in the region. They also value her recognition of the contribution artists make. Her Council's many achievements in this area include:

· Championing and branding the Cairns region as the 'Creative Capital of Regional Australia'

· Introducing Beautiful Art Spaces which has enabled artists to use empty shops in Cairns and Port Douglas

· Supporting the establishment of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair

· Gaining the waterfront site and funding for the Entertainment precinct which will have art spaces in Whites Shed as well as a new theatre and public spaces

· Increasing public art funding including the Laneways project
