The inaugural Festivals Committee met on 7th April with an enthusiastic mix of people across the region who will share ideas and experiences and plan to make our festivals better. We know that festivals are not just about having fun, they also bring social cohesion and provide a much needed boost to our economy.

Carnivale in Port Douglas, the Babinda Harvest Festival, the Gordonvale Pyramid race weekend, the Yorkeys Knob festival or new festivals like the up and coming Blues Festival (May 3rd at Fogarty Park) all help to showcase our amazing region with its abundance of talented artists, performers, sportspeople, creative stall holders, buskers, musicians, craftspeople. Council is able to provide leadership and support to grow our key events and identify gaps where new festivals might be facilitated.
