There is a lot of misinformation going around about what is going to happen at Mossman Gorge so the Council and the Indigenous Land Corporation have put together an information pack to explain what is proposed. Over half a million people, in 90,000 vehicles, visit the Gorge each year and there are real issues with parking and road access. It is proposed that a new car park and visitor centre - to be managed by the Kuku Yalanji traditional owners - will be established 2 kilometres from the gorge on Mossman Rd. Visitors can park at the centre and then walk, ride or catch an electric shuttle bus up to the gorge. The project will create jobs for the Mossman Gorge Aboriginal Community members through guided tours, an art gallery and gift shop, café and by holding events and functions. A questions and answers fact sheet has been developed to answer the main questions that have been raised during the consultation process. This includes the information that all Douglas residents who get the Daintree river concession card will be entitled to FREE unlimited shuttle bus rides. Other concessions may apply following feedback from the consultation that is currently occurring. Further information can be obtained from the Mossman office, and any feedback can be emailed to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it |
