Council was successful in obtaining funding from the State Government to prepare a new Parks and Recreation Strategy and we need people to get involved to help guide this important community strategy.

Consultants, Strategic Leisure Group, have been engaged to prepare the strategy on Council's behalf and will review the sport and recreation needs of the entire Cairns Region. The strategy is being developed to provide policy direction and a vision for parks, sport and recreation for the next five years. The plan will identify key priorities and provide Council with a clear and achievable direction for providing and managing parks for the people.

The study commenced in August; consultation will be taking place in late September and October, and the study will be finalised in March 2010

There are a number of ways to be involved:

• Community surveys
• Community meetings at
o Gordonvale
o Cairns City Council Mossman
o Cow Bay - Diwan
• Sports summits for clubs (Gordonvale, Cairns, Mossman)
• Youth consultation
• Focus groups
• "On Line" through Council's web site.
