Urban Design: Mayor's Award
Friday, 02 October 2009 07:48

One of the initiatives of my Council has been to establish the Urban Design Advisory Board (UDAB). This group consists of people with a range of skills in areas such as architecture, town planning, landscape design, urban design, sustainability and green building design.

The Board meets monthly and has provided advice to Council on a range of matters including the proposed cultural precinct on Trinity inlet, the Port Douglas Waterfront plan, CBD revitalisation and the Mt Peter planning process.

Council is keen to promote good design and I am introducing a Mayor's Award to recognise best practice in design.

UDAB is playing a key role in identifying buildings that deserve to be showcased and acclaimed. Next month we will confirm a shortlist of buildings which will be publicly recognised with this new award.

If anyone wishes to bring to our attention a building that demonstrates good design elements I would be delighted to hear from you on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
