Emma Thirkell ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The network is meeting next on Wednesday 4th November 2009 Place at Cairns City Library, meeting room 1, from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm.

The network's charter is to identify, develop and action projects that will have a measurable impact on the uptake of sustainable building practices in Far North Queensland. To achieve this, builders, construction service professionals, building material manufacturers, retailers, government representatives, industry and community associations and other interested stakeholders are invited to work together.

The network is a great initiative and has received widespread support. New members are always welcome and can register at: http://www.greenbuild.com.au/forum/ where a full list of network participants and their details can be found.

The Cairns 1st candidates and I ran on a platform of sustainable development and it's wonderful to see groups such as the TGBN getting involved in such actions as the Sustainable House Day, presenting to the council's Urban Design Advisory Board on air conditioning issues, wanting to have input into Council's Waste Management Strategy and attending TNQ Sustainable Region Committee meetings. (More about this committee later).
