Nominate a community champion for Australia Day Awards 2010

Do you know a local resident who has made an outstanding contribution to the region? Then nominate them now for the Cairns Regional Council Australia Day Awards 2010. Nominations are invited from individuals in the following categories:

• Citizen of the Year,
• Junior Citizen of the Year,
• Cultural Award,
• Volunteer of the Year
• Sportsperson of the Year: Senior and Junior.

I will present award recipients with a certificate and a bronze medallion at the Cairns Civic Theatre on Australia Day, 26 January 2010. Last year's Citizen of the Year was Todd Hartley, recognised for his contribution over more than a decade to helping young people into training and employment.

To nominate someone you believe is worthy for consideration for this prestigious award complete a nomination form available from any of our regional libraries, or online at Council's website. Nominations close on Wednesday 16 December.
