Celebrating National Re-cycling Week and perhaps the "Big Aussie Swap Party" next year

It's the 14th National Recycling Week and Council is on board to celebrate. Council's Materials Recovery Facility is hosting a Public Open Day on Sunday 15th November from 9.00am to 1.00pm at Waste St, Portsmith, off Redden St near the old landfill site.

Come along and learn what happens to our recycling:

* marqee on site with displays, information and giveaways
* videos of the facility operation in the education room
* guided tours by facility staff

It's important that we do everything we can to reduce the amounts of waste going to the landfill.

Next year I'd like to see Council get on board with Planet Ark and have our own inaugural "Big Aussie Swap Party." We could organise an event - in City Place perhaps - where people can bring along unwanted goods and swap them with others; we all need encouragements to recycle and re-use.
