Please join me at the official opening of the Cattana Wetlands at 9am on Sunday 6 December.

Find your way to Dunne Road, near the Yorkeys Knob Transfer station, and the signs will direct you to this significant project that has been jointly funded by the State Government and the Council.

Most people have no idea that this previously degraded sand quarry has been turned into a wonderful recreation area

, and a space that is going to be a huge attraction for visitors - especially bird watchers - as well as locals. There are walking tracks, toilets, picnic shelters and a bird hide amongst the remnant of lowland rainforest and the thousands of trees that have been planted there.

The opening coincides with the Climate Change meeting in Copenhagen and some people are planning to ride their bicycles to the wetlands to demonstrate how important it is that we do all we can to reduce green house gas emissions.
