Business owners and residents who live at the bottom end of Lake St will be relieved to know that they will now be protected from flash flooding and damage to their businesses and vehicles now that massive pumps have been installed. This has been a huge project that has been needed for years and it means that the city is more likely to withstand the increased number of floods and turbulent events that are predicted with global warming. Other infrastructure projects completed are the long-awaited flood mitigation works at Caravonica which will protect 400 householders in the Barron River delta from floodwaters: and, of course, the very expensive ($188M) upgrade of the 4 sewage treatment plants to protect the Great Barrier Reef. |
